BLOG CALL TO ACTION:
OBAMA & NELSON LETTER

URGENT CALL TO ACTION: TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA TO DISCUSS THE CHINESE DRYWALL CRISIS WITH CHINESE PRESIDENT HU JINTAO THIS WEDNESDAY

On January 19, we have a historic opportunity to raise our voices and demand redress for the victimization of our families by Chinese drywall, but we must act quickly. On that day, President Hu Jintao of China will meet with President Obama “to promote positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-US relations,” according to Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu. Meanwhile, the White House states that “the president looks forward to welcoming President Hu to Washington to continue building a partnership that advances our common interests and addresses our shared concerns.” Let’s make sure those concerns include ours, and that the Chinese president understands that for truly positive relations, his country must do right by American families whose homes, health and finances have been destroyed by defective Chinese drywall.

Floridians who have suffered the effects of this unconscionable crisis should write IMMEDIATELY to President Obama to demand that he ask the Chinese president how he plans to fix this mess, and to Senator Nelson to demand that he lean on the president to make sure our concerns are on the agenda. Time is short, so we’ve prepared two emails that you can cut and paste for your convenience, but you must send these emails today. You may, of course, personalize the emails as you see fit.

Dear Mr. President:

Toxic Chinese drywall has destroyed many American families’ homes, health and finances around the nation, and especially here in Florida. Many of these families voted for you, counting on your promise to stand up to corporate wrongdoers and truly represent the average American.

When you meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao this Wednesday, January 19, I implore you to discuss our plight, as we are facing devastating health issues and financial losses as a result of the Chinese drywall. As president of our great nation, you have the ability to persuade Mr. Hu that positive US-China relations require accountability, and doing right by our victimized families. We are not seeking easy cash or one single penny of profit: We simply demand compensation for what we have lost as a direct result of a toxic and defective product “Made in China.”

We understand that you have big issues to discuss on Wednesday, from the crisis in Korea to the unfair devaluation of the yuan. But we also know that you are an honorable man, and that standing up for what is right is more than a campaign promise to you: it is who you are. We hope that you will remember the American families who have been devastated by toxic Chinese drywall this Wednesday, Mr. President, and that you won’t let us down.

Respectfully,

YOUR NAME

Dear Senator Nelson:

Florida families devastated by toxic Chinese drywall need your urgent help.

When President Obama meets with Chinese President Hu Jintao this Wednesday, January 19, we need our president to persuade Mr. Hu that positive US-China relations require accountability, and doing right by our victimized families is a necessary condition of ongoing good will between our two peoples. We are not seeking easy cash or one single penny of profit: We simply demand compensation for what we have lost as a direct result of a toxic and defective product “Made in China.”

We understand that there will be big issues to discuss on Wednesday, from the crisis in Korea to the unfair devaluation of the yuan. But we also know that the president is an honorable man, and will live up to his promise to stand up to corporate wrongdoers and truly represent the average American. Can we, your constituents, count on you to remind the president of our plight, and make sure that the Chinese drywall crisis is on his agenda for Wednesday?

Please understand that Chinese drywall is the biggest issue in our lives right now, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. We have a long way to go before we are made whole again, and we cannot do it by ourselves. We are counting on you, the officials we elected, to speak for us in this difficult time.

Please don’t let us down.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME
