Senator Bill Nelson

Senator Bill Nelson, Mrs. Joyce Dowdy and Florida Attorney David Durkee discuss the widespread problem with contaminated Chinese drywall affecting Floridians and countless people throughout the U.S. Senator Nelson conducted a recent news conference at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sonny and Joyce Dowdy in Cape Coral, Fla. Attorney Durkee is representing the Dowdy family in a lawsuit related to contaminated drywall that was allegedly used negligently to build their home.

Beyond their courtroom initiative to defend victims of toxic Chinese drywall, the law firm of Roberts & Durkee is dedicated to enacting legislation that will protect homeowners suffering from Chinese drywall and prevent the ill-effects of Chinese drywall from resurfacing.

The firm has met with Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) and applauded the senator’s efforts to tackle this issue (see letter attached). While the firm does not suggest that the government should directly compensate homeowners affected by Chinese drywall, there are other ways to support them. Among these is a tax code section that allows tax payers to deduct property losses suffered as a result of an unexpected event, such as a fire, or in this case Chinese drywall. Beyond that, the firm encourages implementing a law that would protect victims from foreclosure while their contaminated homes force them to live elsewhere.

Senator Bill Nelson with David Durkee

Florida Attorney David Durkee, who is helping residents statewide with their toxic Chinese drywall problems, explains the Chinese drywall phenomenon to Senator Bill Nelson.

Toxic Chinese drywall may be one of the largest and costliest consumer product defect cases in the history of the United States. The firm of Roberts & Durkee is committed to preventing the continued spread of this problem. Accurate information, product recalls and stern penalties for builders, who knowingly sell a house with contaminated drywall, are just a few of the ways to control this problem. Lawyers C. David Durkee and H. Clay Roberts will continue to speak out and pursue legislation that will protect homeowners affected from Chinese Drywall and prevent this from happening to others.

The law firm has corresponded with top elected officials regarding toxic drywall. See some of their letters here:

1. Letter to Governor Charlie Crist

Their advocacy has caught the attention of the press who have in turn brought many of these issues to the public. See some of the articles that Roberts and Durkee, P.A. have been featured in here.
