The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued its October report regarding Chinese drywall: The conclusion is incomplete
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has now issued its October report. This report does not provide any new information about this crisis. However, it does state that by the end of October the CPSC expects to receive the results of their initial set of tests. Further, by early November they should have the results of all of the testing they have performed. Click here to view a copy of the report.
The timing of these results seem like typical Governmental planning. There needs to be a sense of urgency in this investigation. Our firm has conducted private testing of a number of homes throughout the state of Florida. The results that we receive from our testing do not take months to obtain. Our results can be obtained in weeks. Further, this is such a catastrophic loss to most homeowners – paying to expedite these results would seem appropriate.
Further, there needs to be better coordination within the CPSC. The head of the CPSC should have made sure that all of the test results were obtained and the investigation completed, before the CPSC travels to their once every two year summit about product safety in China. Why would you want to travel to China and discuss a subject and an investigation that according to the CPSC is “incomplete.”
In order to demand change at this Summit, the CPSC needs to make sure they know as such about this subject as possible – both scientifically and factually. We hope that this summit produces results. We hope that this summit produces an agreement that the corporations that caused this terrible tragedy will come to the United States and subject themselves to Federal Court jurisdiction. The victims simply want their day in Court. However, this writer remains skeptical when the summit is going to happen October 21, 2009, and the results of the testing will not be available until after the summit takes place. This would be like going to trial and trying to prove your case, when the evidence is incomplete. This simply does not make sense. We need a true sense of urgency by the CPSC and the victims need it now.
